Common questions

Response Times and Booking

What happens after I call?

A local answers, talks through what is going on, and books a time that suits. A reminder lands before the visit, and a sparkie turns up with a written quote before any work starts.

What counts as an electrical emergency?

Sparks, a burning smell, visible arcing, or a total loss of power all qualify. Flick the safety switch back on once and if it trips straight away again, that is worth a call as well.

How fast can you get here?

Often same or next day for a standard booking. Genuine emergencies get moved to the front, and this pocket of the eastern suburbs sits inside our usual weekly rounds.

How soon can you fit me in?

Most bookings land often same or next day rather than weeks out. We will always give you a straight answer on timing rather than a vague window.

Common questions

Money, Quotes and the $50 Off

Is the quote really free?

Yes. A sparkie comes out, looks at the job, and leaves you a written price with no obligation to go ahead. There is no call-out fee attached to getting that quote.

Do prices change once you start?

No. The price we quote is the price you pay, even if the job runs long. If something genuinely unexpected turns up once we open a wall or the board, we stop and talk it through before touching it.

What does "$50 off your first service" cover?

New customers get $50 taken off their first job with us, on top of the free written quote. It applies once you are ready to go ahead, not as a condition of quoting.

Do you charge a call-out fee?

Not for a quote. You pay for the work once you have agreed to it in writing, and nothing extra gets added just for us turning up to have a look.

Common questions

The Paddington Questions

What suburbs do you service?

Woollahra, Edgecliff, Double Bay, Bellevue Hill, Rose Bay and Dover Heights all sit on our regular rounds alongside this suburb. Ask if your street is not listed and we will confirm.

Do you work on heritage/strata properties?

Regularly. Paddington was Australia's first conservation zone, so heritage controls shape a lot of the work we do here, and we are used to strata approvals on top of that.

Do you know Paddington's housing stock?

Well. Most of the suburb is Victorian-era terrace housing built between the 1870s and early 1900s, often with ornate iron lacework out front and wiring that has never been touched since. Warm humid summers push a lot of those homes toward split-system cooling for the first time, and the old single-phase supply feeding a terrace was never sized with that load in mind.

Can you handle new builds and renovations here?

Yes, both. New builds get wired to current standard from the first fix, and renovations get assessed for what the existing board and circuits can actually carry before work starts. Saturday trade along Oxford Street and through Paddington Markets keeps the shopfronts busy too, and a few of our jobs are commercial fit-outs rather than homes.

Common questions

Licensed, Insured and Done Properly

What is a Certificate of Compliance and do I get one?

It is the paperwork lodged with NSW Fair Trading confirming notifiable work was tested and meets standard. You get a copy once the job is signed off, and its cost sits inside the quote.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. We hold NSW Electrical Contractor Licence #452529C and full insurance, and we belong to Master Electricians Australia. Both the licence and the membership can be checked independently.

Can I do my own electrical work in NSW?

No. DIY electrical work is illegal in NSW for anything beyond the most basic tasks, and it voids insurance if it goes wrong. A licensed electrician has to sign off on notifiable work.

What is a safety switch (RCD) and do I need one?

It is a device that cuts power in a fraction of a second if current starts leaking somewhere it should not. Older Paddington terraces often predate the requirement, so we check for one on every visit.
